Southern California woman-founded coffee brand brings third-party-certified, commercially compostable packaging across its entire retail coffee bag lineup.

Beach City Coffee, the Southern California-born, woman-owned coffee roaster and beverage brand, today announced BPI commercial compostability certification across its full retail coffee bag lineup, making it the only coffee company bringing certified compostable coffee packaging to mass retail shelves today.

The certification brings third-party verification to every Beach City Coffee retail bag—including Dawn Patrol Espresso Blend, Locals Only, Surfer Girl Blend, and House Blend—giving consumers a clear way to identify commercially compostable coffee packaging when they shop.

Beach City Coffee is available at Whole Foods Market, Kroger-banner stores including Ralphs, Fry’s, and King Soopers, and Walmart.

“When I started Beach City Coffee, we used recyclable packaging because I wanted to make a better choice. Then I found out it was not accepted by my own local recycling program. That sent me on a mission for a better option. Today’s customers care about what their food and coffee come in—and so do we. Now, every retail bag carries BPI certification, giving people the confidence that the packaging is commercially compostable,” said Jillian Salinas, Founder and CEO of Beach City Coffee.

BPI certification provides third-party verification that the bags meet recognized ASTM standards for commercial compostability. As part of the certification, the bags are also assessed against BPI’s requirements for no intentionally added organic fluorinated substances (PFAS)*.

For Beach City Coffee, the announcement builds on a longstanding commitment to more thoughtful coffee packaging. The brand has used compostable bags across its direct-to-consumer and retail business for years, and the BPI certification now gives that commitment independent, third-party validation.

Founded by Salinas after more than a decade of roasting coffee, Beach City Coffee grew from a backyard operation in Santa Monica into a growing grocery brand rooted in Southern California’s coastal culture. Today, the company brings together quality coffee, responsible sourcing, and packaging designed with its environmental footprint in mind.

**Because commercial composting access and acceptance vary by location, consumers should check with their local composting program before placing the bags in an organics bin.
