Functional Mushroom Council Members Invest in Scale and Formulation Flexibility

From a new four ingredient platform and a doubled manufacturing footprint to the category’s first move into pet wellness and a new coffee booster, Functional Mushroom Council members spent Q3 2026 building the capacity and product pipeline behind the next phase of growth for functional mushrooms. A common thread runs through this quarter’s news: members are investing in scaling and formulation flexibility at the same time, making it easier for brands to bring mushroom-powered products to market across more categories — including the fast-growing pet wellness segment.

The Functional Mushroom Council was formed in October 2025 as the first-of-its-kind nonprofit bringing a unified voice to the rapidly expanding functional mushroom industry in North America. Since its debut, the Council has welcomed a wave of functional mushroom brands, growers, suppliers, and individual experts.

Monterey Nutra Doubles Facility Footprint and Expands Commercial Leadership

Monterey Nutra announced a major expansion of its Watsonville, Calif. operations, doubling its manufacturing footprint and production capacity while adding two experienced commercial leaders to support accelerating customer demand. Built on more than 55 years of mushroom cultivation expertise, the investment expands capacity across every stage of the company’s vertically integrated operation — from genetics and cultivation through finished ingredient production — and increases availability across its portfolio, including MycoPure® Dual Extract Powders, Full Spectrum Powders and ManeFocus®.

To support its expanding customer base, Monterey Nutra also appointed Michal Sochor as Director of Sales, Food and Beverage, and Bobby Chadha as Director of Sales for Supplements, Sports Nutrition and Pet. Sochor brings more than a decade of experience helping brands develop functional food and beverage products using specialty ingredients, while Chadha brings more than 12 years spanning ingredient science, contract manufacturing and retail commercialization. The expansion also reinforces the company’s sustainability initiatives through efficient energy systems, renewable U.S.-sourced substrates and a vertically integrated domestic supply chain that maintains traceability from DNA to delivery.
