CLEVELAND, OH — Joy Filled Beverages Ltd. today announced the launch of Reckon, a tart craft soda brewed from an old-world recipe and brightened with real heartland fruit. Reckon debuts in two flavors — Cherry (90 calories, 15g sugar per 12oz can) and Apricot (80 calories, 12g sugar per 12oz can) — both caffeine-free with no artificial colors or sweeteners, and less than half the sugar of a typical cola.
While much of the better-for-you soda category has moved toward functional formulations, Reckon takes a different position: a soda that is simply a soda, made carefully. Colors come from black carrot (Cherry) and beta-carotene (Apricot). The brand's tagline: "Not too sweet. On purpose."
Reckon is produced in small batches in Cleveland, Ohio. The first production run of 32,000 12oz sleek cans is now rolling out direct-to-consumer at drinkreckon.com ($35.99 per 12-pack, including a 6+6 Cherry/Apricot variety pack) and into Northeast Ohio independent grocers, cafes, and taprooms at a $1.99 per-can MSRP.
"Soda shouldn't make you choose between tasting like candy and tasting like nothing," said Ryan Chaif of Joy Filled Beverages. "We went back to an old-world recipe, added real fruit from America's heartland, and stopped there."
