LOS ANGELES, October 7, 2026 — Ola Sol today announced the launch of Humo, the first 100% agave wine built around the smoky character of traditional mezcal, alongside a New York distribution agreement with Union Beer/Blueprint Spirits. Humo is available now at olasol.com and wholesale in California and New York.
Humo is made entirely from Espadín agave grown in Oaxaca and fortified with mezcal brandy distilled from the same agave, producing a spirit-forward smoke profile inside a wine classification. That distinction matters. California alone has nearly 27,000 active Type 41 and Type 42 licenses, per state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control counts from June 2026. In New York, more than 5,000 establishments hold Restaurant Wine licenses. None can legally pour tequila or mezcal. All can pour Humo, and with it the full agave repertoire: Oaxaca old fashioneds, mezcal negronis, and mezcalitas, on a license they already hold.
“As the seasons change, drinkers move toward darker, fuller cocktails, and a large share of bars are legally unable to serve the mezcal drinks their guests are asking for. Humo removes that constraint. It gets its smoke the way mezcal does, from Espadín cooked in earthen ovens, which is why it behaves like mezcal in a glass rather than imitating it,” said Alexis Beechen, CEO and Co-Founder of Ola Sol.
The mezcal brandy behind Humo starts with six-year-old Espadín agave, cooked roughly five days in underground earthen ovens, crushed on a tahona mill, fermented naturally for about 15 days, and distilled in copper pot stills. The smoke is not added. It comes from the earthen-oven cook, carried through into the finished wine. The agave is dry-farmed on rainfall alone, with no irrigation.

Union Beer partnership in New York
The Union Beer/Blueprint Spirits agreement puts the entire Ola Sol portfolio in front of one of New York's largest on-premise account bases.
“We look forward to welcoming Ola Sol to our portfolio,” said Oscar Delgado, Wine and Spirits Manager at Blueprint Spirits. “This partnership enables us to serve accounts holding beer-and-wine licenses with an elevated, high-quality cocktail base. In a crowded landscape, Ola Sol holds a competitive advantage in an underserved segment, giving our sales representatives an opportunity to continue growing market share.”
