PRESS RELEASE posted by The Glendronach
Sep. 1, 2026 at 9:48am (EDT)

200 years ago, James Allardice founded The Glendronach on the Boynsmill Estate in the Scottish Highlands, nestled within the 'Valley of the Brambles', with a singular vision: to unite the robust character of Highland spirit with the exquisite influence of Spanish sherry casks.  In 2026, as The Glendronach marks its 200th anniversary, the distillery brings together its dedication to celebration, entertaining, and its storied homeplace with the unveiling of The Glendronach Boynsmill House Edition ($124.99, 46.8% ABV, 750ml).

James Allardice was renowned for hosting distinguished guests, with his charisma and wit becoming part of the brand’s enduring legacy. In tribute to its rich heritage, this fourteen-year-old single malt limited edition offers a rare opportunity to experience the spirit of those early gatherings, welcoming guests into the story and setting of Boynsmill House itself.

A Tribute to Boynsmill House

Continuing The Glendronach's renowned dedication to sherry cask maturation, Boynsmill House Edition has been matured for fourteen years in the distillery's signature combination of the finest Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.

Under the guidance of Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie, a carefully selected number of Claret red wine casks have been introduced to complement the whisky's rich and robust character. This distinctive third cask style adds vibrant layers of red berry fruit and elegant complexity, paying homage to the wines that would once have graced the tables of James Allardice's celebrated gatherings. The result is a richly layered single malt that reflects The Glendronach's unmistakable Highland depth whilst introducing a vibrant new dimension to its celebrated house style.

“Created to mark The Glendronach’s 200th anniversary, Boynsmill House Edition captures the timeless charm of our Highland spirit and sherry cask mastery,” says Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie. “In this expression, I find the character that has long made The Glendronach so distinctive: plush ripe malt, Highland toffee, bramble and raisin layered with subtle notes of stone fruit and plum, leading to a mellow, velvety finish. It is a richly rewarding whisky that honours the enduring character of the Valley of the Brambles while celebrating a remarkable moment in our history.”

Returning to the Place Where It All Began

As part of its bicentennial celebrations, The Glendronach has carefully restored Boynsmill House, returning the historic residence to life through a sensitive transformation. By invitation only, guests will have the rare opportunity to step inside the home where James Allardice secured Scotland's second-ever whisky licence and laid the foundations for one of the world's most richly sherried single malts.

Boynsmill House joins The Glendronach's collection of immersive whisky experiences, offering visitors an intimate connection to the people, place and stories that have shaped the distillery for two centuries. The Glendronach Boynsmill House Edition will be available at selected retailers worldwide, priced at an MSRP of $124.99.
