Limited Quantity Available on Aug. 18 for National Pinot Noir Day
Dayton, Ore. – Aug. 17, 2026 – Sokol Blosser Winery, a family-owned legacy winery in the Willamette Valley, announces a special preview of its newest release, Osprey Cuvée Estate Pinot Noir, in time for National Pinot Noir Day on Aug. 18.
This new wine started as an experiment by Sokol Blosser Winemaker Robin Howell. “I wanted to create a Pinot Noir with fruit from all of our estate vineyards,” says Howell. “It turned out to be so delicious that we decided to give it its own name and introduce it as a limited release.”
The name was inspired by Oregon’s state raptor, the osprey, and the fact that ospreys are a common sight in the skies above Sokol Blosser’s vineyards and the nearby river, where they hunt for food and protect vines from pests.
She Flies with Her Own Wings
Oregon’s state motto, She Flies with Her Own Wings, also has special meaning for Howell. Osprey Cuvée is the first wine that she fully conceived and crafted as Sokol Blosser’s Head Winemaker. “I like to think of this wine as a celebration of independence, confidence and finding your own way,” adds Howell. “I’m really excited about launching it.”
A Wine That Unites All of Sokol Blosser’s Vineyards
Osprey Cuvée carries the Willamette Valley appellation, because Howell used fruit from Sokol Blosser’s estate vineyards surrounding the winery in Dayton and from its Kalita Vineyard in Yamhill-Carlton.
The result is a wine of great complexity offering aromatics of pomegranate and cocoa nib, with light red fruit on the palate and a finish of warm spices. Howell says the wine is drinking beautifully now and has aging potential of 10-15 years. Her favorite food pairing with the Osprey Cuvée Pinot Noir is classic Pacific Northwest grilled salmon with a summer tomato salad, and a simple chocolate bar for dessert.
Special One-Day Pre-Release Aug. 18
A limited quantity of the 2024 Osprey Cuvée will be available online and in the Tasting Room on Tuesday, Aug. 18 to celebrate National Pinot Noir Day. The price is $80 per bottle.
Official Release Late September
After the one-day preview, the wine will be released in Sokol Blosser’s tasting room and online starting in late September. In total, just 350 cases were produced.
