About

Isle of Wight Distillery is a premium small-batch spirits producer based on the Isle of Wight, England, best known as the home of Mermaid Gin. The distillery draws inspiration from its unique island setting, incorporating ethically sourced and locally foraged natural ingredients into its spirit production. Key botanicals include rock samphire foraged directly from the local shoreline, Boadicea hops harvested from Ventnor Botanic Gardens, and elderflower handpicked from surrounding fields — giving their products a distinctly regional character that sets them apart in the premium gin market.

The distillery employs a tightly controlled slow distillation process, capturing only the 'hearts' of each batch to achieve a signature smooth delivery. This commitment to precision and quality positions the company firmly in the craft spirits segment, catering to consumers and trade buyers seeking provenance-driven, artisanal products.

Beyond its flagship Mermaid Gin range, the distillery has produced historically significant limited edition releases. In partnership with the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Isle of Wight Distillery recreated a style of gin imbibed by naval officers during the 1800s, bottled at 57% ABV. Known as HMS Gin, this expression was aged in bespoke oak barrels crafted by Alastair Sims, England's only Master Cooper, using wine casks re-made to incorporate oak stave from the HMS Victory — extracted during the ship's ongoing restoration. The barrels were first filled in May 2016, with four limited edition releases following in October 2016, May 2017, May 2019, and May 2021. Each release was strictly limited to 251 bottles of 70cl, chosen to mark the 251st anniversary of the launch of the HMS Victory in 2016. Each bottle was accompanied by a 5cl miniature of HMS Victory Navy Strength Gin. These releases represent a rare intersection of craft distilling, heritage, and collectibility.

The distillery also maintains a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, particularly in protecting the Isle of Wight's marine environment. It takes a progressive, plastic-free approach to packaging and production, reflecting a broader philosophy of responsible sourcing and conservation. This ethos extends to its ingredient procurement, which prioritizes local and sustainably gathered botanicals.

Isle of Wight Distillery serves both direct-to-consumer and trade channels, offering premium, limited-edition spirits well suited to specialist retailers, on-trade venues, and gift markets. Its products appeal to gin enthusiasts, collectors of rare spirits, and consumers seeking provenance-led, handcrafted alcoholic beverages with a compelling story.
