Outlaw Distillery is a multi-state craft spirits producer operating grain-to-glass distilleries in Sandy, Utah and Tempe, Arizona. Founded in January 2015 by Kirk Sedgwick in Midvale, Utah, the company was built from the ground up with less than $90,000 in personal capital and a hands-on ethos that included the founder constructing his own distilling equipment. The operation began with a 2,500-square-foot facility and a commitment to sourcing local Utah grains directly from regional farmers, milling in-house, filtering water on-site, and handling the full fermentation and distillation process without outsourcing to bulk spirit producers. This grain-to-glass philosophy remains central to the brand's identity and differentiates it in a market where many so-called craft labels rely on sourced distillate. The product lineup includes small-batch whiskeys, bourbons, rums, spiced rums, and moonshines. The distillery's approach emphasizes careful removal of impurities during distillation to achieve a cleaner, sweeter flavor profile. Award-winning bourbons are among its noted offerings, and the company produces a limited number of single-batch annual releases reserved exclusively for members of its loyalty club, the Wild Bunch. In October 2020, the business was acquired by Tyler Halstead, a former finance and entertainment executive, who scaled production fivefold, grew new customer acquisition by 70%, and doubled overall business size while expanding distribution beyond Utah. In June 2025, Outlaw acquired Tempe-based Adventurous Stills, a grain-to-glass distillery founded in 2016, integrating it into the Outlaw portfolio and rebranding the Arizona location. The Arizona facility adds production capacity and includes a cocktail bar offering direct consumer experiences with signature drinks. The Utah location remains focused on production and retail tastings. Together, the two facilities position the company for regional expansion across the western United States. Outlaw products are currently available in Utah, Arizona, and California through traditional retail and distribution channels, with online shipping available to 42 states. The company targets consumers who value authenticity, local sourcing, and small-batch craft production over mass-market alternatives.
