Hill Farmstead Brewery

Hill Farmstead Brewery is a craft brewery located in Greensboro Bend, Vermont, situated within the state's Northeast Kingdom region. Founded in 2010 by Shaun E. Hill, the brewery operates on land that has been in the Hill family for over 220 years, representing eight generations of continuous use dating back to 1791. The property has a rich agricultural and community history, including ties to the founding of Greensboro and North Greensboro, Vermont, and a direct connection to an 1809 tavern that inspired the brewery's logo.

Shaun Hill's path to founding the brewery began with an early fascination with fermentation science, developed through homebrewing as a high school student and refined through philosophical studies at Haverford College. After working at several early Vermont breweries and gaining international experience—most notably at Nørrebro Bryghus in Copenhagen, Denmark, under the mentorship of Anders Kissmeyer—Shaun returned to Vermont in 2009 and launched the brewery the following year. His time in Denmark yielded multiple World Beer Cup medals and sharpened a production philosophy centered on intention, process, and inspiration.

The brewery began as a modest garage-style operation and has since undergone multiple phases of expansion, adding a new brewery building, dedicated packaging room, bottling and barrel room, and a full taproom and tasting room. Throughout each stage of growth, the operation has maintained strict quality standards, including hand-selecting hops, sourcing local fruit, and continuously refining brewing techniques across a range of styles.

Hill Farmstead produces both canned and bottled beers available through an on-site retail shop, as well as draft offerings served in the taproom, with growler fills available for takeaway. The brewery is a destination operation, drawing visitors from across the Eastern Seaboard and beyond despite its rural, remote location with limited cell service. The taproom and grounds offer a curated on-site experience alongside vintage bottle selections.

The brewery is widely recognized as a leader and trendsetter in the American craft brewing industry, with its beers frequently cited among the most highly regarded in both the beer and wine enthusiast communities. Shaun Hill's guiding vision draws inspiration from wine and spirit traditions, aiming to elevate beer to comparable cultural and sensory standing. The brewery works with barrel aging, local agricultural inputs, and exploratory fermentation styles to push the boundaries of what craft beer can express.

Following the disruptions of the global pandemic in 2020, Hill Farmstead reorganized into a tighter, more focused team, deepening its commitment to premium craftsmanship and community connection. The land surrounding the brewery remains in active agricultural use, producing forage hay, maintaining the property's working farm heritage alongside its brewing operations.
