FederationofBeer

Federation of Beer is a Star Trek-themed craft beer organization that partners with and supports independent craft breweries across what it refers to as the 'Alpha Quadrant' — a network of regional and local brewers across the United States and beyond. The organization operates as a collaborative brewing entity, working with individual brewmasters at independent craft breweries to produce limited-release, Star Trek-inspired beers that celebrate the franchise's spirit of exploration, creativity, and community.

Federation of Beer functions within the broader craft beer ecosystem as both a brand and an organizing force for independent brewers. It is a member of the Brewers Alliance, a buying cooperative founded on principles of liberty, equality, collaboration, and progress — values intentionally aligned with the fictional United Federation of Planets from the Star Trek universe. This cooperative membership helps support smaller, independent brewers through shared resources and collective purchasing power.

The organization works with a rotating roster of brewmasters at partner breweries. Notable collaborators include Joe Cuozzo of HUDL Brewing Company in Las Vegas, Nevada, an award-winning brewmaster active in the craft beer scene since the early 2000s. HUDL Brewing received a Bronze Medal in the Herb and Spice Beer category at the 2024 World Beer Cup for 'Sweet Chai O' Mine,' a collaboration with roving brewer Kyle Weniger (also known as Juxta Nomad). HUDL also produced 'Final Frontier' under the Federation of Beer umbrella.

Another key partner is Tom Collins, brewmaster at Third Eye Brewing Company, an award-winning experimental brewery located in Sharonville, Ohio. Third Eye brewed the Star Trek-inspired 'Powers of Illusion' Talosian Lager, released on October 18, 2024, in collaboration with the Cincinnati Comic Expo and Federation of Beer. The beer features Galaxy Hops, offering a distinctive take on the traditional lager style.

Central to the Federation of Beer's creative direction is Vern Raincock, who serves as the organization's Interstellar Brew Engineer. Raincock guides participating brewers to develop beers that pay homage to specific Star Trek episodes while sourcing local malts, hops, and leveraging each region's unique water profile — a philosophy that keeps the brand deeply rooted in local craft brewing culture. This approach results in beers that are both thematically distinct and regionally authentic.

Beyond themed beer production, Federation of Beer has demonstrated a commitment to humanitarian causes. In 2022, Vern Raincock co-founded the 'Brew for Ukraine' fundraiser alongside Yuri Zastavny, owner of Pravda Beer Theatre in Lviv, Ukraine. Within six months, the initiative raised over $10 million for refugee relief agencies, with more than 700 brewers worldwide participating by brewing a batch of the symbolic 'Putin is a Dick' (Puti Huylo) beer. This effort highlighted the organization's capacity to mobilize a global network of independent craft brewers around a common cause.
