Equilibrium Brewery is an independently owned craft brewery founded by MIT-trained environmental engineers who apply scientific principles to beer making. Located at 4 South Street in Middletown, NY, the brewery features a taproom, beer garden, BBQ program, and retail space. The company's vision is to make the best beer in the world based on MIT-trained scientific principles, a love for craft beer, and a love of community. Founded in 2009 with origins in environmental engineering research focused on water purification for communities in Haiti, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and the USA, the founders transitioned their expertise in water chemistry to craft brewing. The brewery specializes in creating beers with massive intense flavors while maintaining round flavor profiles that are easy to drink, achieving the right balance through scientific precision. Equilibrium Brewery opened its first location on Henry Street in Middletown in 2015, conducting extensive recipe development with up to 6 batches per day to perfect their formulations. Their first bottle release occurred on February 4, 2017, featuring 'There and Back Again' aged on apricots and peaches, followed by their first can sales on June 9, 2017, with core beers Photon and MC2. The brewery quickly gained recognition in the craft beer community, with Saturday releases becoming gathering points for beer enthusiasts who share rare beers from around the world. In March 2019, they acquired a former TD Ameritrade Bank building to create an enhanced taproom, beer garden, and BBQ program, opening the new facility in December 2019. As of 2022, Equilibrium Brewery is ranked in the top 5 regional breweries worldwide and top 10 for most check-ins on Untappd, demonstrating their significant impact in the craft beer industry.
