Boyceville, WI, October 20, 2026– Bifrost Butters, maker of chef-crafted European butter sauces, is proud to announce that its Café de Paris Steak Butter and Sauce has been named a finalist in the Outstanding Packaging category for the Specialty Food Association (SFA)’s 2027 sofi Awards, an annual celebration of the best specialty food products of the year.
Standing for “specialty outstanding food innovation,” the sofi Awards have put a spotlight on excellence in specialty food and beverage since 1972.
Bifrost Butters stood out among more than 1,000 entries, judged by an expert panel of specialty food buyers in a rigorous blind tasting process. Products were evaluated based on flavor, appearance, texture, aroma, ingredient quality, and innovation. 75 products that received the highest marks across these criteria advanced as Gold Award finalists. Bifrost Butters is hoping to bring home the award for Outstanding Packaging in January.
SFA will announce the 2027 sofi Award winners live in a special ceremony on January 17 at the Winter FancyFaire* trade show in San Francisco.
“Each year, our expert judges are blown away by the craft, quality, and innovation of the sofi Award finalists, who set the tone for the industry in the coming year,” said Bill Lynch, president of SFA. “Congratulations to Bifrost Butters and all the 2027 finalists, we can’t wait to celebrate you at Winter FancyFaire*!”
Café de Paris is more than a compound butter. Unlike other ‘compound butters’, when placed under a broiler atop your favorite steak, it will caramelize and turn into a beautifully glazed sauce that enhances, not overpowers, the taste of the meat.
The recognition comes after a busy and productive year for Bifrost Butters. Following their debut at all 28 Lunds & Byerlys stores in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, Café de Paris and Bourgogne Garlic Herb Butter were introduced to ten Kowalski’s stores, also in the Twin Cities. They were also a finalist for the 2026 Shelfie Awards in the best ‘Kitchen Companion’ category, which is sponsored by the startupCPG Community.
“This honor will help us achieve greater recognition in the gourmet retail space, opening up more doors for our butter. We really just want people to be able to enjoy it like we have been doing for years. Americans have never had access to this sort of product," said Meg Wittenmyer, co-founder.
The sofi Awards are considered the top honor in the $219-billion specialty food industry. Past winners include some of today’s most recognizable and successful brands such as Ben & Jerry’s, Kettle Chips, Fage Yogurt, Stonewall Kitchen, and Vermont Creamery.
About Bifrost Butters:
Founders Meg & Joel Wittenmyer started Bifrost Kitchen in 2024 to produce and distribute the steak and escargot butters he learned to make as a chef’s apprentice over 35 years ago. Joel’s European chef gave him the recipes for these unique accompaniments and Joel knew there was nothing else that could compare as a finishing butter on his steak. Now that his beloved chef is gone, he wanted to share this kitchen secret with the public. The garlic and white wine forward Bourgogne butter was originally created to be served with escargot, and contains over a dozen ingredients, while the Café de Paris lists more than 20.
