Certification arrives as new UC Davis research fuels growing consumer scrutiny of oil and fat purity claims

MIAMI, FLA. (Sept. 1, 2026) Prima, the first ancestral protein bar, has earned the Seed Oil Free Certified® seal from The Seed Oil Free Alliance. The certification offers independent, lab-verified proof that Prima’s bars—which use grass-fed beef tallow instead of commonly used seed oils—are exactly what the label promises.

The Seed Oil Free Certified® seal is awarded only after a comprehensive ingredient audit and independent laboratory testing of a product’s added oils and fats, followed by ongoing testing to confirm continued compliance. Prima bars are made with just 10 whole-food ingredients, including grass-fed beef tallow, whey protein, grass-fed bovine collagen, and organic raw honey—with no artificial ingredients or natural flavors. The bars are also Non-GMO Project Verified and certified gluten-free.

The announcement comes as consumer trust in packaged-food oil claims faces new pressure. A recent study from the University of California, Davis found that 89% of packaged foods labeled as containing avocado oil had oil profiles inconsistent with authentic avocado oil. The findings underscored the importance of independent laboratory testing as the strongest way for brands to substantiate premium oil claims. The Seed Oil Free Alliance, whose certification process is built on independent testing, was referenced in the study’s discussion of third-party verification and oil authenticity.

“We built Prima on the belief that protein should come from real, recognizable ingredients—not industrial seed oils dressed up as health food,” said Dominick DeLegge, co-founder and CEO of Prima. “Earning the Seed Oil Free Certified® seal gives our customers independent, lab-verified proof of what’s in every bar, at a moment when shoppers have every reason to ask brands to back up their claims.”

“Too often, an oil or fat claim on a package is just a promise,” continued Jonathan Rubin, founder and CEO of the Seed Oil Free Alliance. “Prima went a step further and put its beef tallow through independent lab testing to earn the Seed Oil Free Certified® seal. That’s the kind of transparency shoppers deserve.”

Prima bars are available in five flavors—Mint Chip, Cookie Dough, Cacao, Salted Caramel, and Mocha—online at eatprima.com, Amazon, TikTok Shop, and Thrive Market, and in retailers nationwide, including its recent launch at Kroger, as well as Sprouts Farmers Market and Erewhon, where Prima ranks as the #1 top-selling protein bar at both retailers.
