National Bourbon Heritage Month, observed every September, celebrates bourbon as “America’s Native Spirit.” For a spirited bourbon, we’d love to share the story of Montana-based Ghostwood Whiskey. Ghostwood Whiskey’s motto, “Go Beyond the Firelight,” is more than a tagline. It’s an invitation to step beyond the familiar, embrace the adventure of the unknown, and create the kinds of experiences that become stories for years to come.

A classic bourbon profile carried further by four grains, layered spice, and a smooth finish that keeps inviting another pour. Midwestern corn brings the sweetness. Rye adds structure and spice. Red wheat softens the edges with an earthy depth, while malted barley brings the four grains together. The result is a rich, complex bourbon made for slow pours, long stories, and whatever waits beyond the edge of the firelight.

While the brand is rooted in storytelling, its core whiskeys have earned recognition for their craftsmanship. Ghostwood Whiskey’s Premium 4-Grain Blended Bourbon Whiskey received consecutive Double Gold Medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2023 and 2024. Its Blended Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Chardonnay Casks earned a Silver Medal in 2024, while Ghostwood’s Black Barrel Proof Premium 4-Grain Blended Bourbon Whiskey received Silver Medals in both 2023 and 2024.

The Ghostwood Whiskey Story

Each bottle features the silhouette of a real American white oak tree from the founder’s family ranch, standing in white against a black label to evoke a lone tree illuminated by a campfire’s glow. The tree, which embodies the type of wood bourbon ages in, symbolizes the stories created when people gather together—every toast, adventure, celebration, ghost story, and cherished holiday memory becoming part of Ghostwood’s enduring legend.
