REYKJAVÍK, Iceland (July 29, 2026) — Saltverk, maker of hand-harvested, sustainable sea salt from Iceland, is now on shelves at The Fresh Market, the specialty grocer known for curating hard-to-find, high-quality foods sourced locally and from around the world. Headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina, The Fresh Market operates more than 170 locations across 22 states, concentrated in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic with an expanding footprint nationwide. Guests can now find two of Saltverk's core SKUs on shelves in select stores: Pure Flaky and Lava.

"We founded Saltverk on the belief that where an ingredient comes from matters just as much as how it's made. The Fresh Market shares that philosophy, curating a shelf for guests who care about provenance and craft. We couldn't ask for a better home for our salt," said Björn Steinar Jónsson, founder of Saltverk.

Saltverk's salts now sit alongside The Fresh Market's curated lineup of specialty meats, seafood, scratch-made bakery items, and pantry goods, all chosen for flavor and craftsmanship over volume. Every batch of Saltverk salt still starts the same way it did at the brand's founding in 2011: seawater drawn from the remote Westfjords of Iceland, evaporated using the region's geothermal energy rather than fossil fuel, and hand-harvested with no additional ingredients or processing. The result is a zero-carbon-footprint product that now reaches a wider group of home cooks with each new retail partnership.

Since its founding, Saltverk has been meticulous in selecting partners that share its core values, and The Fresh Market was a natural fit. Founded in 1982 by Ray and Beverly Berry, The Fresh Market was built in the spirit of European open-air markets, with a focus on ethically sourced, small-batch, and artisan products that meet a high bar for quality. Like Saltverk, The Fresh Market is committed to responsible sourcing, working closely with vendors who meet rigorous quality and animal welfare standards, and to giving guests a shopping experience rooted in discovery rather than convenience alone.

ABOUT SALTVERK

Saltverk is hand-harvested, sustainable sea salt from the remote Westfjords of Iceland. Using 100% geothermal energy and only one raw material — the pristine seawater of the region — Saltverk is one of the few entirely sustainable flaky sea salt producers in the world. The pure flavor and ingredients set Saltverk’s salts apart. Saltverk can be found in the kitchens of some of the world’s most renowned restaurants as well as in the homes of food enthusiasts and chefs around the globe. Saltverk is currently available via Saltverk's website, Amazon, and select brick-and-mortar retailers.
