About
Indslev Bryggeri is a small craft microbrewery located in Indslev near Nørre Aaby on the island of Funen, Denmark. Founded in 1897 by Frederik C. Rasmussen under the original name Bryggeriet Heimdal, the brewery has a rich heritage spanning more than a century of Danish brewing tradition. After several name changes and a period of closure during which the facility operated as an art museum, the brewery was revived in 2005 with a focus on wheat beer production. Following a bankruptcy in 2018, it was acquired by Bryggeriet Vestfyen, which has continued operating it as a boutique microbrewery.
The brewery is staffed by four employees who oversee the entire hand-crafted brewing process from start to finish. Indslev Bryggeri prides itself on using only the finest natural ingredients — malt, hops, yeast, water, and select spices — with no artificial additives or preservatives. This hands-on, artisanal approach is central to the brewery's identity and quality philosophy.
Historically recognized as Denmark's only brewery specializing in wheat beer, Indslev Bryggeri draws on classic Belgian and German wheat beer traditions dating back to antiquity. The Bavarian weissbier tradition was introduced to the brewery by former brewmaster Stefan Peter Stadler and has since become a cornerstone of the product lineup. The brewery produces its own Danish interpretation of wheat beer handcrafted according to Bavarian methods.
In addition to the Indslev brand, the brewery's on-site farm shop carries products from related brands including Ugly Duck, Willemoes, Frejdahl, and Jolly, offering a selection of more than 50 specialty beers. The farm shop is open to the public on Thursdays and Fridays and hosts periodic warehouse sales as well as an annual Christmas beer release event. The brewery distributes through a network of retailers across Denmark in addition to direct on-site sales.
Indslev Bryggeri targets craft beer enthusiasts, specialty beer retailers, and consumers seeking traditionally brewed, additive-free beers rooted in European wheat beer heritage.
