Drake's Brewing / Bear Republic

Drake's Brewing Company is an independent craft brewery founded in 1989 and based in the East Bay region of California. With more than three decades of brewing history, the company has built a strong reputation for hop-forward West Coast IPAs and a diverse portfolio of craft beers that range from refreshing lagers to limited barrel-aged releases. The brewery's flagship and core lineup includes beers such as Best Coast India Pale Ale, Denog Double IPA, 1500 Pale Ale, Aroma Coma India Pale Ale, and Juicy Hoot Hazy IPA, reflecting both its West Coast roots and its willingness to explore evolving beer styles. Drake's philosophy centers on creativity and a deliberate rejection of conventional, uninspired brewing — a spirit captured in the brand's tagline, 'Drink Different. Drink Drake's.' Operating under the motto 'Brewed in California. Shared Everywhere,' the brewery distributes its beers broadly across the region and beyond through an established distributor network. In addition to its production brewing operations, Drake's operates multiple experiential locations that serve as cornerstones of NorCal craft beer culture. The Barrel House in San Leandro functions as the original brewery taproom, offering a neighborhood bar atmosphere with pilot brews and a loyal local following. Drake's Dealership, located in Oakland's historic Auto Row, is a large-format indoor and outdoor beer garden that also features a full bar, cocktails, an on-site distillery, and wood-fired pizza. The Barn in West Sacramento is a two-acre riverfront outdoor gathering space offering food from Pizza Smith, a cocktail lounge, fire pits, and a rotating calendar of community events including live music, yoga, and movie nights. Across all locations, Drake's emphasizes community engagement and regular programming including specialty beer releases, live music, stand-up comedy, and vendor markets. The company maintains a direct-to-consumer presence through taproom sales, events, and a newsletter, while also reaching a broad audience through retail and on-premise distribution channels. Drake's remains independently owned and operated, distinguishing itself in an increasingly consolidated craft beer market.
