Cassia Co-op

Cassia Co-op is the first and only processor-exporter of cassia (Cinnamomum burmannii) — commonly known as Korintje cinnamon or 'kaneel' in Dutch — to establish operations directly in the Kerinci Valley of Sumatra, Indonesia, the world's largest cassia-producing region. The company operates a state-of-the-art grinding facility on the ground in Kerinci, enabling direct relationships with over 1,000 partner farmers and ensuring complete traceability from field to end user. All cassia processed and exported by the company is of 100% Kerinci origin, making it a true single-origin supplier.

The company's product portfolio includes cassia and cinnamon in multiple value-added formats: powder, tea bag cut, cut and sifted, premium cassia sticks, custom cassia sticks, and broken and clean grades. These products are packaged in formats including vacuum-sealed bags and 1 MT jumbo bags, suited for industrial and retail end users across global markets. The facility meets the highest GFSI food safety standards and holds FSSC 22000 certification, along with additional certifications including Rainforest Alliance (RA), UEBT, organic (ORG), and FSA, positioning it to serve certified supply chain requirements across CPG, food manufacturing, and specialty ingredient markets.

Cassia Co-op has introduced structured purchasing standards (SOPs) for farmers that define sorting and drying expectations and link preparation quality to transparent pricing. This removes ambiguity from the buying process and creates consistent, fair commercial relationships with its network of partner farmers. An internal control system (ICS) team conducts pre-harvest field checks on all certified cassia lots, and a barcode-based UPC tracking system records every batch upon arrival and monitors it throughout the facility.

In addition to processing operations, the company maintains a cassia seedling nursery in Kerinci and enforces a 3:1 replanting commitment — for every tree harvested, more than three are replanted — securing long-term supply continuity. As the only industrial cassia processor operating in the region, Cassia Co-op contributes to the local economy through job creation, tax contributions, and partnerships with local stakeholders and institutions.
